Community Land Trust: There is to be a Public Meeting at 7:30pm on 23rd November in Chiddingly Village Hall about forming a Community Land Trust.
"Community Land Trusts are a form of community-led housing, set up and run by ordinary people to develop and manage homes as well as other assets. CLTs act as long-term stewards of housing, ensuring that it remains genuinely affordable, based on what people actually earn in their area, not just for now but for every future occupier."
A Community Land Trust would be independent of the Parish Council, run by a group of volunteers as a non-profit making organisation to purchase and manage property on behalf of the community. Funding is available for housing for those in housing need, and the policies determining who could apply to rent or part-buy such properties would be under the control of the Trust, and hence the local community.

There is a proposal by Tony Penrose to re-develop the redundant farm yard at Willets Farm in Muddles Green for housing. You may have seen some early proposals at the Annual Parish Assembly back in May. The plans have yet to be finalised and submitted for planning approval. Tony has agreed in principle to make some of the houses available to a Community Land Trust so they may be rented by local people or bought on an equity share basis (part-purchase).
This is an exciting opportunity for the community as a whole to secure for the future a number of properties for rent or part-purchase. The policies controlling who is eligible to rent or part-buy these properties would be under the long-term control of the community via the Community Land Trust and not some remote housing association.
The object of the meeting will be to recruit a steering group. The steering group will form the trust, and recruit members. The members will elect a board to determine the policies and eligibility criteria controlling who can part-buy or rent properties, raise the money required and purchase the properties. From that point on the board will be responsible for managing the properties.
